P.O.Box - Demo

Reviewed on Oct 8, 2005 by Tom

It is strange the way Fate goes about her manners, because i first heard from this band after a friend of mine met them at a gig where some of the members of the band came to watch 5 Days Off, who unfortunately had cancelled. So after driving for 4 hours, they decided to stick around, and that's how they met my friend. They passed the demo on to him, and i hadn't really heard it untill one day i got the chance to see them in a local youthclub. Boy, did they blow me away, not only with their extremely catchy and infectious music, but allso with their charismatic presence on stage and the maturity of their compositions (Consider the fact that they haven't been playing together for more than 6 months due to different changes in line-up), as well as their general composure and way to go about (You should see them soundcheck! I haven't seen any band that has been together for such a little time handle it that profesionally). Musically, this octet brings you a mesmerizing blend of ska-core and skatepunk. The songs all sound very fresh, original and technically well-executed! Just a pity of the poor recording quality, for it was recorded on a 12 track, with all sorts of equipment they borrowed from hot and her! Still, if one looks beyond that, and they make it easy, believe me, you will see a young band that still has a huge amount of progress upon its sleeves, but furthermore, a band that is able to deliver on every song allready! Every single song on this litlle demo captivates your attention from moment one, greatly helped by the singer's extraordinary voice. Highlights for me are: "Don't waste your time", which basically is a song about seizing the day because life is too short allready; "P.O.Box" with the great intro; and "Rough", whose chorus will make you scream along at the top of your lungs after a few listenings. I've had the privilege of hearing some of their new stuff, and i must say that they're ever evolving into something that just might proove to be the next big thing! This is something for every Ska-fanatic, or for anyone whom enjoys good music in general!

Excellent mix of Skacore and Skatepunk from a very young and talented band.
