Throw Rag - 2nd Place

Reviewed on Jul 5, 2008 by marnix

While there are many bands that are considered rock’n’roll, without being particularly rocking or rolling, Throw Rag is one of those bands that manages to capture the true essence of rock’n’roll. We all know the ingredients, right? Semi dangerous, semi anti-social, anti authority, sexy, dirty... The things that made us all love the sound so much! And sure its difficult to shock or be original this day and age, but true rock’n’roll is something we can always enjoy. And there’s a lot to enjoy with this new Throw Rag record.

Slow, fast, mid-tempo, heavy, soft its pretty all round. Rocking out is the band’s principal modus operandi, but its not just rock’n’roll here. There’s also a strong element of southern boogie, swing, blues and soul in there. Something that gives their sound alittle more dept.

Some really nice guitarplucking here and there and some nice simple chordal melodies accompanied by great vocals. Sure, this might not be an epic record of biblical proportions or anything, but I wonder why BYO didn’t put this out, like their previous two records, since this Throw Rag record is just as good as anything they’ve ever done. I salute you Throw Rag with double horns up and I’ll see you guys on stage again someday somewhere…
