Shinedown - The Sound of Madness

Reviewed on Jun 26, 2008 by alwaysacoustic

Shinedown released their third album titled The Sound of Madness on Atlantic Records on June 24, 2008.

The Sound of Madness is unlike their two previous albums Leave a Whisper and Us and Them that contained acoustic recordings of their hit songs “45,” “Simple Man,” “Save Me” and “I Dare You.”

Instead, you will hear riveting guitar and drum smashing songs that will make any metal head satisfy their Shinedown addiction. Songs like Shinedown’s newest hit “Devour” as well as “Sound of Madness,” “Cry for Help,” “Sin With a Grin,” “What a Shame” and “Cyanide Sweet Tooth Suicide.” But it does not end there.

If you purchase The Sound of Madness (Bonus Track Version) at iTunes now, you will basically receive the Limited Fan Club Edition that is currently sold out at Amazon, for four dollars cheaper. Not only that but you did not have to wait weeks for your sold out copy from Amazon to hear additional riveting smash mouth bonus songs like “I Own You,” “Energy” and “Son of Sam.”

Like I mentioned earlier,The Sound of Madness does not contain any acoustic songs, however the album does contain several songs that are less riveting but have more of a melodic presence to them. These songs are “Second Chance,” “The Crow & the Butterfly,” “If You Only Knew,” “Breaking Inside” and “Call Me.”

My favorite Shinedown addictions are “Devour,” “Second Chance,” “The Crow & the Butterfly,” “If You Only Knew,” “What a Shame,” “Breaking Inside” and “Call Me.” These songs have the potential to be just as popular as Shinedown’s other hits like “45,” “Simple Man,” “Burning Bright,” “Fly From the Inside,” “Save Me” and “I Dare You.” Who knows, maybe somewhere down the line they will become their most popular songs but only time will tell?

I hope that Shinedown will make acoustic recordings of these songs, if they have not done so already, and release them on iTunes, Rhapsody or Napster. I believe it would bring another element to them. Shinedown’s other acoustic album releases are Fly from the Inside, Burning Bright – Single, Shinedown – EP and Rolling Stone Original.

Finally, I am looking forward to providing our first coverage of Shinedown at Summerfest this Saturday, June 28th. If Shinedown performs with the electrical energy and enthusiasm that they possessed on their latest album,The Sound of Madness, it should be an awesome evening.
