Said and Done - Endless Roads
Reviewed on Jun 1, 2008 by marnix
Said and Done have a sound which could easily impress anybody masturbating on Leeway and Cro-Mags records. Well… Anybody with the lack of intelligence who does such a thing would easily be impressed of course, but all I'm saying is their sound is kinda on the same page as these NYHC legends. I’ll do one better: Ripping the Cro-Mags/ Leeway-style hardly gets done with such precision and class like these “Brabo’s” (it’s a Dutch word for retarded people) do it! So playing this specific style puts the band in the fantastic position of potentially being both successful and credible in a genre that’s been raped with clichés and fake copycats for the last 20-something years.
The band manages to pepper their songs with great riffs, bad-ass licks and particularly well placed breaks. Vocalist Pim Champion successfully bridges the gap between energetic shouts and singing and is the core of the bands sound. Lyrically the band pulls off the typical balancing hardcore act eventhough the songs are written with a good amount of wit. Of course, like many (if not all) non-native English speakers, the lyrics never raise above the standard HC criteria, but its fairly decent on any occasion.
My only point of concern is their need for growth on stage. If they can back up this amazing release with an equally amazing live-performance they can easily be placed with the top of the Dutch HC-scene and even tag along outside the borders of the country of weed and windmills. Seriously, Endless Roads is an amazing piece of hardcore music and S&D could easily be your new favourite band. Therefore I hope Said and Done can push their act to the next level and make it count at the one place where hardcore belongs: on stage!
