Rezurex - Psycho Radio

Reviewed on May 23, 2008 by marnix

The problem with listening to just one or two specific genres is that for all its wonders, just one specific genre doesn’t exactly cover the entire spectrum of human emotions, stories and feelings. Granted, there are zillions of sub-categorizations to punkrock that appeal to a very broad range of sentiment, but when it comes to creepy storytelling with an upbeat vibe there is no better genre than psychobilly. Now, you might think that Rezurex, with their grim imagery and semi-morbid song titles, would hardly be anything close to fun and festive, but you are wrong bud! Listing to Rezurex will give you that summer-vibe and'll make you wanna drink, fuck and dance all at the same time. (which would make a mess, but I’m willing to try anyway)

So, Rezurex play a mix of surf, punkrock, rockabilly and poppy psychobilly that blends to create a weathered but upbeat conglomeration of styles. Eventhough I know these fellows are highly skilled they keep their structures simple and open, and sure the melodies are predictable but so catchy they’ll keep you interested every spin. Psycho Radio sounds something like Misfits songs being covered by an undead version of the Beach Boys with stand-up basses, and judging by the artwork and the band’s physical appearance, it's totally deliberate.

So with rusty knives in hand, my friends at Rezurex, have carved its own niche into the dirtied tissue of psychobillys blackened lungs and I await the day these guys get picked up by the some big money label or at least by something like Hellcat records.

Tiger Army managed to do so and these guys are just as good.(if not better!) People who enjoy the genre know Rezurex are worthy of your respect, or at the very least, your money. Go buy this record!
