The Crowd - Letter Bomb
Reviewed on May 15, 2008 by marnix
The Crowd is a killer poppunkcombo from Orange County which, I guess, a lot of people never heard of, but who actually started out back in 1978 and pretty much paved the way for the whole poppunk genre in Cali way before the whole poppunk name got soiled by craprock bands like Good Charlotte and other shite.
The Crowd broke up after the release of A World Apart and then regrouped in 1988. 18 years later the third full-length album the Crowd had managed to be released. Its name is Letter Bomb and got released in 1996 on the now dead Flipside label. So 12 years after its birth TKO re/released it with a nice litte add on namely the Dig Yourself EP that got released during the same time.
What does it sound like? Well, it was a crisply recorded blast of three-chord, two-minute buzzsaw pop songs in the tradition of the Buzzcocks and since TKO hardly had to do shit but to put it out I guess it just sounds like it did in 1996: fuckin´ awesome!
If you're into 77style punkrock or 70s and 80s poppunk you won't be disappointed with a band like the crowd. Sure, this won´t shock the world, but it’s a damn fine record nevertheless.
