Annihilation Time - Tales Of The Ancient Age

Reviewed on Apr 29, 2008 by marnix

Take the best of Black Flag and blend it with classic rock like Black Sabbath and, in the right proportions, you’ll get this nice little hybrid sound called Annhilation Time.
They’ve aligned themselves with the long-gone 80’s hardcore/thrash/rock/punk crossover thingy and do so with class. Fans of guitarmasturbation can zip down their pants and wave their willies around ‘cause Annihilation Time is all about the riffing and soloing.

Graham’s a great guitarplayer and they milk that musical-moose till the very last drop. Right up to the point that I say: I can takes no mo! Seriously, from time to time I get the idea that alittle less guitar would do just fine for their sound or is that just me?

Still it’s not annoying in any way and because the songs are so terse and relentlessly bad-ass I might as well just shut the fuck up and leave you sweet readers with the information that this record is AOfukkinK in my book.

If you dig Rollins-era Black Flag as much as I do you’ll get your kicks with this baby! And anyone acquainted with II, and liked it, can blindly purchase III since it more or less continues in the vein of that previous record. Perhaps only alittle better, tighter and more intense, but that’s a good thing, right? I just wanted to add that for a band with so many thrashy punkrock influences these guys are extremely tight musically, and with the awesome production this reveals no errors whatsoever and therefore leaves a great impression and a great third record. Dare I say this is a modern day classic? Well… I guess I just did? Didn’t I? Classic or no classic: An awesome signing for the Reflections family and a great add-on to any decent record-collection.
