A Wilhelm Scream - Career Suicide
Reviewed on Apr 24, 2008 by Roel
Hot damn! If being one of the most consistent, dedicated and sincere bands of our little scene wasn’t enough for A Wilhelm Scream… The band returns to the forefront of the scene with their latest release “Career Suicide” and they are in to one hell of a shape.
Basically everyone creamed over their previous 2005 release “Ruiner” and although I agree that it is an outstanding album I never fully appreciated it. I found some tracks on that album to lack the punch and pace that made their sound so good. On their new release “Career Suicide” however, the band finally fulfills their potential. Their already full speed style gets taken up yet another notch and their musical abilities are portrayed perfectly this time around. This means you’ll be in for a total assault on your ears: full throttle punk songs without ever losing the melodies out of sight, spiced up with awesome guitar licks and socio-political lyrics.
If you need examples of their technical abilities, just listen to the first single of the album “9 to 5”. Where most melodic hardcore albums tend to open very energetic only to end rather weak, A Wilhelm Scream succeeds in keeping up the pace all album long. From the opener “I wipe my ass with showbiz” to the closing energy-trio “Pardon me, thanks a lot”, “Check request denied” and “We built this city (on debts and booze)”, the band hardly ever takes time to breathe. Other highlights include “The horse” and “These dead streets”.
A Wilhelm Scream sounds better than ever on “Career Suicide”, an album that sounds like a natural progression from its predecessors “Mute Print” and “Ruiner”. This new album sounds faster and more powerful while always being melodic. The only reason not to purchase this album is that they might never top this release and you’ll have difficulties enjoying future releases by the band. Other than that, you are seriously missing out if you haven’t heard this already. My album of the year 2007 for sure!
