Fonzie - Shout It Out

I’ve been following these Portuguese pop-punkers pretty much since the beginning, and once again I’m feeling a little taken aback by the pure quality of tunes these guys keep ditching out. I know for one that the band have been struggling to make a name for themselves in Europe, with all the frustration and hints of band-break-ups as a consequence, but when hearing “Shout It Out” only one thought pre-dominates, and that is how terribly good this is sounding.
Just like with their previous offerings, I like it best when the band step on the gas pedal and shift to higher gears than when they drop their mellow bombs, but it needs to be said the band do a swell job of bringing the best of both worlds. Songs like “Lost” are utterly irresistible, the title track is a fantastic anthemic tune reminiscent of material from Story Of The Year and early material by The Used, while “We’re Not Alone” and “Sowing The Seed Of War” are melodic corkers that crack me up every time again. By now, Fonzie have honed their skills in serving a pop-punking dish that is both sugar-sweet and spicy in all the right places, and for the life of me I can’t fathom why they aren’t as famous by now as a band the likes of Millencolin let’s say, because tracks like ““We’re Not Alone” are certainly worthy of a place in MC’s back catalogue! If only they dressed a bit more Gothic maybe … The fact that the album sounds so sweet even though the band produced and released this album entirely on their own is another proof of their considerable talent! It's not an accident the band have been selected for the MTV Europe Music Award for 2007...
To be short: “Shout It Out” is another flawless summery pop-punk album from our Portuguese friends. This one comes with the “Singalong is guaranteed” sticker on the bottom so you know you just can’t go wrong!
