Almond's Drive - Get Your Pogo Shoes On
Reviewed on Sep 4, 2006 by mikey
I like the sentiments of this record. Crystal clear digital production. Crisply played French hardcore and punk. 1 word song titles. Chord progressions that have served a million bands before well, re-used to good effect. A photo of a fat guy on the front of the CD. You can see where these boys are coming from.
They get it right much more with the more aggressive numbers on the album. Opener. ‘Fire’, is a genuinely great punk rock song. Where the band should stick to the Ignite sound, they maybe veer a little too much into Green Day/Blink territory, which they are maybe not as good at. There is just a bit too much cliché there for me.
But this a really promising record. If, as some of my mates have predicted, the 30 year anniversary of punk next year will see a plethora of new traditional sounding bands, these boys will be well in amongst them. Well worth a cheeky peek on the evil that is myspace.
