My Chemical Romance at Plymouth Pavillions

The first leg of the My Chemical Romance UK tour proves itself to be an explosive start....
Since the early hours the southern city of Plymouth was graced with My Chemical Romance fans waiting for that place in the front row of the venue.
Emotions ran high throughout the day with an exstatic feel amongst the plethora of fans waiting to see 'their' band once again.
Shortly upon entering the venue Thursday began their set which was a truly energetic and passionate performance and the introduction of the excellent lighting that was to follow.
Thursday however did 'rub the crowd up the wrong way' so to speak during an interval when they mentioned the MCRmy, saying something along the lines of "the MCRmy?, is that about worshiping satan or something?, thats what I read in NME". It was clearly aimed as an insult to NME and their steriotypical approach to todays youth however it was recieved slightly differently than intended by the crowd.
Regardless Thursday continued their set only to leave a darkened room of pumped people screaming at every hint of My Chemical Romance hitting the stage.
Several intense clapping sprees later, the stage lighting dropped to a single, central white spotlight to unveil a hospital bed housing Gerard Way.
Then began the piercing vocals of 'The End' as Gerard Way suddenly shot upright and jumped out of the bed wearing a doctors jacket that was subsequently torn off to reveal his Black Parade costume - still minus his band members.
As the introduction comes to end the curtains shoot apart to reveal the rest of the band adorned in full Black Parade costume backing the 'mighty' Gerard Way (as reffered to by Thursday) and they begin the seemingly epic show that was to follow.
The spectacular lighting reinforced the band to a huge extent and added a huge sense of energy to the show which only furthered the energetic participation of the clearly passionate audience.
As the show progressed stage effects such as pyrotechnics and massive blasts of ticker tape flooded the venue, both of which effects enhanced the show overall no end.
Gerard Way clearly enjoyed the performance with several spates of dancing, joking and general crowd interactions which make it obvious why such a highly controversial character is loved so much by his fanbase.
Following playing the Black Parade Album, the band left the stage only to return as My Chemical Romance, dressed in rather more casual attire.
The band continued to play a further few songs from their older songbase infront of a new backdrop, the 3 cheers for sweet revenge logo. (Word REVENGE surrounded by guns)
The show proved a huge success and had a fantastic atmosphere throughout, this tour is sure to be a great success and well worth going to see if your fortunate enough to aquire tickets.
Europunk Staff will be attending the Cardiff show on sunday night also, this time equipped with a photographers pass - Expect photos and another review on sunday.
