The Misfits at Opera House, Bournemouth

Arguably the most iconic punk bands ever The Misfits who continue to influence bands on the punk and metal scenes. They have been covered by bands like No Use for a Name, NOFX and Metallica.

It was the turn of the South West, September 27th 2006 on their leg of their UK tour supported by the Taxidermists, Skindred and the punk super group Osaka Popstar.

Taxidermists opened strongly with their un-original mix of pyschobilly and punk, the band lacked any real chemistry with the audience much like with most opening bands they were simply there to warm the crowd.

The Misfits appeal certainly isn't constrained to the punkers, emo's, goths, old schooler's and even those in what appeared to be in nothing more than fancy dress were present.

The diversty of the shows were felt by the other key support Skindred. A band who blend Reggae/Dancehall/Drum&Bass/Classic Punk and Metal for a impressive live set. The band's set my have been short but they managed to fit in their most popular songs including Nobody, Pressure and Selecta.

Of course the crowd were hugely expectant of what the Misfits were going to produce, and as they came on stage they were greeted with the loudest cheer of the night. Opening with the hugely famous song Halloween(which was covered by AFI) got the crowd singing along to every chorus. Other classics of the Danzig era appeared on the setlist including, Skulls, Martian, London Dungeon and Hatebreeders.

Post Danzig songs were frequant in a set which spanned nearly 2 complete hours. Strangly the pit was not as active as I had anticipated, maybe large sections of the crowd, just respectfully and and awe just watched and admired the craftwork that The Misfits have been perfecting for over thirty long years.

The current Misfits contains two ex-members of the now legendary Black Flag(Dez Cadeza on guitar and Robbo on drums) So to really complete the night the Misfits guys threw in some classic Black Flag, ripping into songs like Six Pack, Jealous Again and Rise Above such the quality of the covers you would be mistaken to think they were actual Misfits songs, if you were unfamilar of whom Black Flag were.

Osaka Popstar who are made of Jerry Only, Marky Ramone, John Cafiero & Dez Cadena. Got a hugely respectful cheer from the crowd and wowed the old schooler's and the younger generation of fans by ripping into some classic Ramones covers, these included Blitzkreig Bop and KKK took my baby away.

It was an ideal way to end the night, an unfortabble gig, a rare oppurtunity to see such a legendary band in the UK, it may have happened in September but it shall surely stay in my mind for a long time.
