Rancid at U.E.A. Norwich

Legendary U.S. punk rockers make a long awaited, brief visit to our shores

Absolutely electric! Rancid rattled through about 1hr 30mins of crowd favourites mainly from 'Let's Go' and '...And Out Come The Wolves'. With a couple of tracks from 'Life Won't Wait' and an acoustic track from 'Indestructible' and even a rendition of 'Knowledge' by Opereation Ivy. The songs just kept coming with ferocious intensity from a band clearly loving what they do, and with years of playing experience together and a back catalogue to rival most bands on the scene at the moment.

As you can probably already tell the set had a distinctly punk feel to it with less emphasis on ska.

Tim Armstrong bounced and spiralled his way around the stage in traditional fashion whilst still managing to play his guitar in its strange sideways position, a mesmerising personnal performance, and his grey hat remained perched on his head throughout. No Brett Reed I'm disappointed to say but former The Used drummer, (whose names escapes me) did an excellent job. Lars Fredrickson had a strange white and colourful stripey outfit but was his usual energetic self and Matt Freeman gave the audience a masterclass in bass guitar technique, (especially during 'Maxwell Murder').

Overall an excellent night and the English crowd thoroughly enjoyed themselves!! Rancid don't visit us very but this gig was well worth the wait!!
