Aiden at Birmingham Academy

If I'm honest the main reason I was going to tonights show, it was to see Waterdown. before this I think I'd only heard half an Aiden song if that, but thought why not.

The show had been upgraded from the Academy 2 to the main hall, looking round the venue was a bit sparse in parts. By the time i'd got in to the venue the first band had started so sadly i missed their name but from what i caught they were a good punk band in the vein of Tsunami Bomb. Next up were Ghost Of A Thousand with their Bled like hardcore stylings who got the first pits of the night underway.
Then it was the turn of the mighty Waterdown to take the stage. Last time i saw these in the academy was upstairs to about 30 people so it was good to see a decent sized crowd in front of them. Kicking their set off with 'Impress Me' from their Victory Debut 'never Kill The Guy on The First Date' and quite alot of confetti, the set was a good mix of all three albums and the new tracks of 'All riot' sound great live, only with the one Vocalist now but still just as effective as ever. With a blistering cover of the Refused Classic 'Rather be Dead and Round 2" being another highlight.
Now this was the bit were i was expecting to write just another over hyped band blah blah lah.... But the response from the crowd when Aiden hit the stage is overwhelming you'd think that the Academy is full to the rafters. They hit the stage running and pumple you with nothing but good up tempo punk remeniscing back to early Afi, they bound and hurle around the stage like this is their one and only show and the crowd particaption is strong through out especially when they play crowd fravoruite 'I Set My Friends On Fire' which opens up with what frontman Wil refers to as the braveheart game (wall of death) and once the song kicks in the crowd just don't stop. Aiden have the crowd in the palm of their hand and can't seem to put a step wrong, especially when Wil decides to go for a crowd walk over their hands and shoulders. Ending the set with two encores one of which is a cover of the Misfits 'Die Die Die My Darling'. As i said i was expecting to say how Aiden are just another over hyped band etc but from tonight preformance i was wrong. Aiden are definatley worth seeing live!
