Good Riddance at Muziek-O-Droom, Hasselt

I'm still not a big fan of this venue, the sound's usually of a very low quality, there are a lot of concrete pillars keeping you from getting a good view on the stage. then again at last weeks Alkaline-show the sound was pretty good, so I was hoping for more of the same this time.
Oh yeah, the pic I submitted dates from the GR show at the MOD in 2003

Dearly Deported
Pop-punk (maybe it's more poppy punk rock, but there's only a thin line inbetween, right?) is definitely not my favourite music style, so I wasn’t paying too much attention to this band, but what I heard didn’t quite convince me, I saw them a couple of times before and those times I thought they were slightly better than the rest of the Belgian pop punk/punk rock bands I’ve seen the last couple of years, so I suppose it had a lot to do with the sound (not that uncommon at this venue).

Chaser
I listened to a couple of songs by this band, they make a kind of up-tempo punk rock you don’t hear too often anymore, but they didn’t quite convince me. My opinion about the live-show is that they did try, but the singer’s voice didn’t fit the music (nor his looks). He had a big Pennywise-logo tattooed on his left shoulder and if there is 1 band I had to compare Chaser’s music with, that would be the one. They didn’t excel in any way although you really saw them trying (I know I said this ago a few lines earlier, but it was just so obvious they did put in the effort). They gave away a bunch of free albums but I surely wasn’t interested. The sound was still pretty MODish (crappy)

Ah, nostalgia! GR is a reminder of a time when we were young(er) and we were going to change the world. The band still has those ideals together with a sound to call their own. That sound has evolved during all those years they’re playing music, but still they stay true to a rather fast-paced aggressive type of punk rock (with some HC influences ofcourse). They usually also know how to please a crowd with their show that’s even more energetic than their music. Compared to the other times I saw them (2001 & 2003) this was a very static show. But I’ve never heard them play better, and the sound had also improved a lot since the support acts. The crowd was in high anticipation. GR started the set with some of their “slower” songs, thus the anticipation was maintained for a little while but after 3 songs all hell broke loose, everybody was singing along, lots of people were dancing and we all had a great time!
