Band Of The Month July 2007: Destine

Deliberate powerpop songs, a modern American rocksound and a punkrock twist. Destine songs consist of straight-from-the-heart melodies, multi-layered vocals, but most of all some really powerful hooks.

The band Destine consists of five young but experienced musicians from The Netherlands. They all have earned their merits in former bands operating from the punkrockscene. Beating heart of Destine is 21-year-old multi-instrumentalist Robin van Loenen, who initially started the band as a solo project, but saw it grow into a steady and powerful liveband.

The first half of 2006 is spent writing songs and results in the ‘A Dozen Dreams EP’. All instruments and the production are taken care of by van Loenen himself. The EP is mastered by Martijn Groeneveld, well-known of Dutch top-notch acts. Destine tries to bend the benefits of the ever-evolving music industry its way: in order to get as many listeners as possible, the entire EP is downloadable for free on the website www.destine.nl.

In spring 2007 Destine’s live band kicks off and plays its first 10 shows in 7 weeks, some of them in the most well-known venues in the country. On stage Destine combines the feelgoodvibe of powerpop with the intensity of punkrock and shows that the songs sound maybe even better than on cd. The rest of the year Destine will be touring extensively in The Netherlands and abroad.
