Band Profile: A Good Name For A Band
Added on Feb 7, 2005
A good name for a band started bringing chaos to the world in the fall of 2001.
Lasse and Martin, the current songwriters/vocalists/guitarists of the band were having lunch in their hometown of Karlstad, Sweden. As usual they where talking about music, punk mostly, and how they felt that their band, DSW, were in kind of a rut. Just out of the blue they started to brainstorm for new bandnames. After discarding names such as “the Toenailclippings” and “Cell-Fish”, Martin came up with “A good name for a band”. They agreed that it had to be the best name for a band ever, and noone could really argue with that. So the boys hooked up with former DSW-drummer Tomas Andersson and the band was officially formed. Lasse got the not-so-popular task of being the bassplayer for the band since he was the worst musician of the three. They started to write songs like crazy and had soon finished their first demo -A bad name for a record. The style of music was American punkrock with a little touch of Swedish teenage angsiety and the lyrics ranged from being about politics and injustice to lovestories.
They did two more demos before Lasse sat his foot down and demanded to be rid of the bassguitar. They asked their friend Anders if he wanted to join and he said “why the hell not!?” so now there where four of them. They now started to book gigs in as many Swedish towns as possible at the same time as they made a name for themselves in their hometown as the most productive band of all times (6 demos in two years) and a killer live act. After venturing down to Denmark for a festival gig, Anders declared that he wanted to play hardcore instead and the bassguitar was given to another old DSW-member...Robin Helin. The band continued to tour the country with various bands by their side such as the infamous SKUMDUM from Skellefteå and other more unknown bands such as Fence 52, and Suckerpunch (a.k.a Autopilot). They released a split together with SKUDUM and Fence 52 called “Punkrock will unite us” and followed it up with a tour named after the split.
Nowadays the band is working on their seventh demo-cd and are still making the roads unsafe all over Sweden. During their two years together they have done shows in Stockholm – café 44, Västerås, Eskilstuna, Karlstad, Jönköping, Falun, Borlänge, Skellefteå, Aalborg –Denmark among many other cities. Their music is a little bit more punk these days but it still has a warm undertone of catchy melodies, emo harmonys and funny, hard-to-play guitarriffs in the same school as NOFX, Lagwagon and Propagandhi.
